The scheme has been developed as part of Phase 1 of a Special Development Plan for the area, drawn up by the City of Antwerp. The development was carried out in cooperation with architects Storme Van Ranst of Antwerp.
Media-Saturn was opened in November 2007, with Maisons du Monde and Brico following in March and April this year. In a statement, Redevco said it has installed photovoltaic solar panels on the roof and solar-powered lighting in the car park, representing a substantial investment. The energy generated by this installation would be sufficient to provide electricity for 30 homes. The investment for this project was not disclosed.
