Dutch developer Redema has entered the Polish retail market by acquiring a plot of land in Ostrow Wielkopolski to develop a new shopping centre. 'This is our first step on the Polish market as a part of our expansion in Central Europe and Turkey. Previously Redema has realised commercial and housing projects in Belgium, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary and of course in Netherlands. Ostrów is our first project here in Poland but not the last,' said Wim de Lange, the lawyer and spokesman of Redema. The investment volume for the project was not disclosed.

Redema is searching for properties in Poland in cities up to 100,000 inhabitants. 'In some cases negotiations are very advanced,' De Lange added. The developer is also in the process of completing formal procedures to enable construction works to start as soon as possible on the new plot. Galeria Vita will provide 32,000 m2 of retail space and 1,000 car parking spaces. It will provide a medium sized shopping centre with retail and entertainment facilities. It will include a DIY hypermarket, FMCG supermarket, a multiplex and a shopping mall with over 100 fashion and services shops. The completion of the centre is planned for 2010.
The shopping centre will be designed by the British design office Dunnett and Craven who will cooperate in Poland with Assmann Polska Grupa Projektowa, the project manager. The leasing strategy and commercialisation will be undertaken by DTZ retail agency.
