Real IS, the property arm of German lender Bayern LB, has handed over the headquarter office building at Wilhelminakade 123 in Rotterdam to its tenant, KPN.

The property belongs to the Real IS BGV IV special alternative investment portfolio and has recently undergone extensive modernisation. Dutch telecommunications company KPN has already agreed a long-term, 20-year lease.

'This is one of the most striking contemporary buildings in Rotterdam and a major influence on the development of this architecturally significant quarter,' said Melanie Grüneke, head of Real IS Netherlands. 'We have further broadened our range of real estate services in the Netherlands to add transaction management to our existing asset management services.'

The office areas in thw 18,500 m2 high-rise were redeveloped in line with the latest technical standards, Real IS said. In addition, the building was extended to create an extra 2,800 m2 of space, including a new auditorium for 250 people. The building achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating. V8 Architects was responsible for the architectural design.

Dura Vermeer was responsible as general contractor, while Savills was responsible for technical project management.
