The new 7 World Trade Center in New York has been awarded the Special Jury Award at the prestigious awards ceremony held at the MIPIM property fair in Cannes.

The tower, costing $700 mln (EUR 525 mln), replaces its namesake destroyed in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Designed by architect David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM Architects) and developed by Silverstein Properties, the 52-storey building is 228 metres tall and provides 158,000 m2 of leasable office space, starting on the 11th floor.

Accolades were awarded to six other real estate projects during the MIPIM Awards on March 15. Click on the link below for the details.

MIPIM also announced a new 'Green Building' award for 2008. The new category will cover buildings that have been designed, completed, renovated, managed or re-used in a sustainable, ecological manner. 'The aim is to highlight projects that meet the criteria for high environmental quality, such as using energy and water optimally, protecting the health of the occupants, improving their work environment, and reducing the impact of the building's emissions on the environment,' the organisers said.
