Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is to move its Amsterdam headquarters to a new location in the city's Zuidas business district, the banking group said on Friday.

RBS will lease 11 floors (around 10,000 m2) of the 22-floor UNStudio tower owned by Union Investment on the Gustav Mahlerlaan for a price estimated by market sources at around EUR 340 per m2, or EUR 3.4 mln per annum. The move will affect around 700 RBS staff.

The space freed up by RBS in the current building occupied by ABN Amro Bank will be used to accommodate Fortis Bank workers following the integration of the banks in the course of this year.

The UNStudio was designed by leading Amsterdam architects bureau UNStudio and is the last building to be completed within the Mahler4 project.

Van Gool Elburg advised Union Investment on the deal. RBS was represented by DTZ Zadelhoff.
