A global coalition of real estate organisations is aiming to agree global ethics standards for the property industry.

The International Ethics Standards Coalition (IESC) met at the United Nations in New York last week.

The coalition includes industry bodies RICS and RIBA from the UK, the German Property Federation, France’s International Real Estate Federation, and bodies from Spain, Switzerland, Russia, the US and Brazil.

‘Many professions already have their own robust ethics standards and codes. However, whilst the principles set out in these codes often overlap, the extent to which they are understood consistently by members of the public, clients and consumers of professional services is poor,’ said Peter Bolton King of RICS.

‘Establishing a common, internationally applied ethics standard will enhance transparency, consistency and trust in the services being offered by professionals wherever they operate,’ he added.
