Poitrinal assumes the role as of 1 November. He  is currently founder and chairman of ICAMAP Investments, a fund focusing on property stocks. Under the UK corporate governance code, his continuing involvement with ICAMAP, which is a 7.35% shareholder in Capital & Regional, means he is not considered independent.

Poitrinal brings decades of experience in the shopping centre industry, particularly at Unibail-Rodamco, which he joined in 1995 and where he served as chief executive between 2005 and 2013.

'Guillaume is one of the most well regarded figures in European real estate and brings with him a wealth of highly relevant experience and knowledge of the shopping centre sector which will be of great value to the company. I am delighted to welcome him to the board and I very much look forward to working together,' commented John Clare, chairman of Capital & Regional.

Poitrinal added: 'Capital & Regional is a great company with a strong portfolio of shopping centres and ambitious plans to grow. I am therefore pleased to be joining the Capital & Regional team and am looking forward to contributing to the company’s future plans.'

Mark Bourgeois, current executive director, will be joining retail-focused REIT Hammerson as its new managing director for the UK and Ireland.
