The £112 mln (€133 mln) project, located at Britannia Road on a former gasworks site, next to St Mary’s Stadium, will provide much-needed housing options in the long-term rental market.

The development will encompass 384 units, featuring a mix of 186 one-bedroom and 198 two-bedroom flats. It will also include 176 on-site car parking spaces and private balconies for 264 of the apartments.

The Britannia Road project will boast residential buildings ranging from eight to 17 stories tall. The ground floor will feature commercial spaces like a cafe/restaurant and a convenience store. Additionally, the development will incorporate co-working spaces, meeting rooms, rooftop gardens, bicycle workshops, and even dog-washing facilities.

An open space will be accessible to the public, creating a connection between the public right of way near Northam Bridge and Britannia Road. The design also pays homage to the site's industrial heritage by incorporating elements of the former gas holders into the landscaping.

Bryony Stala, director, Savills central south planning team in Southampton, said: ‘These much-needed homes for the long-term rental market will offer stability and security for tenants. The scheme also delivers wider social value, providing a catalyst for development in the area to enable the creation of a community, which will in turn help support the commercial aspects of the scheme.’
