Dutch pension giants ABP and PGGM are investing in the Rabo Bouwfonds Communication Infrastructure Fund. Fund manager Bouwfonds REIM said that the existing investors, Pensioenfonds Vervoer and DNF, have made further commitments to the vehicle.

The financial details of the investments were not disclosed. But Bouwfonds said that the equity injections would enable the fund to make long-term investments totalling more than EUR 750 mln in the Dutch telecom infrastructure.

The Rabo Bouwfonds Communication Infrastructure Fund is a Dutch investment fund investing in Dutch communications infrastructure, such as transmitter masts and cabling infrastructure, on the basis of a long-term vision. Its focus on the quality and positioning of these assets enables it to make long-term investments, such as providing for a fibre optics infrastructure, which will give the Netherlands infrastructure designed for the future for internet, television and mobile telephones. It also cooperates closely with large and small telecom providers in this area.

Bouwfonds said that there is increasing interest among institutional investors for infrastructure, including that of the telecom industry, because of its features such as stable cash flows and underlying value growth. 'In its capacity as a real estate investment manager, Bouwfonds REIM noticed these features and accordingly set up this investment fund that focuses on the Netherlands,' the fund manager said.
