Leading Polish industrial developer Panattoni Europe has announced that it is developing a fifth logistics centre for global e-retailer Amazon, this time in Upper Silesia in Poland. The price of the development was not revealed.

The new facility, comprising 135,000 m2 of space, will be built in Sosnowiec in southern Poland. Completion of the project is planned for October 2017.
'The new investment by Amazon in Poland is important not only for us as the developer, but also for the whole region. Such a vast undertaking is bound to impact on the growth of Silesia. This is already our fifth joint project, so at Panattoni Europe we are immensely proud to be able to satisfy the requirements of such an innovative and global player as Amazon,' commented Robert Dobrzycki, chief executive officer Europe, Panattoni Europe.
The facility, which is being constructed on a 21-hecatre site near Panattoni Park Sosnowiec I/II, will be subject to environmental certification under the BREEAM scheme. Completion of construction works is planned for October 2017.
'Since 2014, Amazon has invested over 2,5 billion PLN, created thousands of full-time jobs and encouraged hundreds of Polish sellers to grow their businesses by using Sell on Amazon programme. We’re excited to become a member of the Sosnowiec community,' said Steven Harman, director of European operations at Amazon.
The investment in Sosnowiec is the fifth project implemented by Panattoni Europe for Amazon in Europe. Finished facilities are in operation in Bielany near Wroclaw and Sady near Poznan, as well as in the Czech Republic. Another facility is under development in Kolbaskowo near Szczecin.
Panattoni is not the only developer that has benefitted from Amazon's push into Europe in the past decade. PropertyEU Research figures indicate about 1.6 million m2 has been developed on behalf of Amazon in the 10 years to 2016. Of this about 1.03 million m2 is attributable to Sydney-listed Goodman group which has headed our ranking of top logistics developers for the past five years.
Other beneficiaries in Europe include Prologis and LCP.
