Oxford North Ventures has been granted approval by Oxford City Council for the expansion of its Red Hall development to provide greater amenity, meeting, co-working and workspace.
The project was submitted by the joint venture company of Thomas White Oxford, the development company of St John’s College, Cadillac Fairview and Stanhope.
In March 2021, the Red Hall received planning consent as part of the first phase of development to deliver 92,903 m2 of laboratory and workspaces, 480 new homes, hotel, nursery, cafes, bars, three public parks and infrastructure.
This was followed by proposals for several enhancements to the building to provide a cafe-bar, retail units, community space, co-working spaces, and additional meeting and workspace intended to accommodate a range of science and innovation start-ups and SMEs.

The enhanced Red Hall, designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, will now provide an additional 2,001 m2 within a three floor wing to the north-east of the building, connecting it to a new market square and central park.
The building, which will target BREEAM Excellent certification, will now total 5,710 m2 over five floors.
Infrastructure enabling works will be completed by April 2023, followed by phase 1a construction works in summer 2023 with the Red Hall, along with two lab-enabled buildings, to target completion of Q1 2025.
Red Hall will be built at the heart of Oxford North, a new £700 mln (€793.4 mln) global innovation district being built on 26 hectares of land.
Around 4,500 people will work there alongside 1,500 residents who will enjoy amenities including a hotel, nursery, shops, bars and cafes, and three public parks.
