OVG to develop mixed-use property in Amsterdam’s Zuidas

Dutch developer OVG Real Estate has won a tender to build a mixed-use property in Amsterdam’s Zuidas business district.

Located on Beethoven Street, the P15 Ravel development site is adjacent to ABN Amro Bank’s headquarters in the Zuidas.

Amsterdam’s municipal authorities launched a tender for the site earlier this year. The aim was to realise a multifunctional building, including a mix of offices, residential units and amenities, covering a total floor area of between 50,000 m2 and 75,000 m2.

Klaas de Boer, director of the Zuidas at Amsterdam City Council, commented: ‘Lot P15 Ravel is a unique place in Zuidas. OVG’s proposal, designed by MVRDV, has a bold and distinctive architectural appearance and marks a crucial turning point in the development of Zuidas into a mixed area with housing, employment and services. This plan effectively increases the attractiveness of Zuidas.’

The building is, to a large degree, open to the public; the public space literally extends into, and over, the building. OVG also developed the office building known as The Edge in the Zuidas district. Delivered in December 2014, the property has been described as the most sustainable office in the world after being awarded the highest-ever rating by the Building Research Establishment (BRE).
