Rotterdam-based office developer OVG Real Estate has handed over the new head office for Schneider Electric in Amsterdam.

The building, of around 6,100 m2 and designed by BIAS Architecten, is located on the Taurusavenue in the Hoofddorp office district near to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The building, which is expected to receive a BREEAM-NL ‘Excellent' certificate, includes various Schneider Electric technical innovations. This means it can also function as an experience centre.

For example openings have intentionally been fitted into the ceiling to give an 'inside view', the building has smart energy measuring and control systems and electric car charging points are provided outside the building. The building is connected to the combined heat and power plant (BioCHP) of the adjacent TNT office building that was also developed by OVG. The BioCHP locally produces the minimum energy required and runs on second-generation biofuels. The residual heat is sufficient to also heat surrounding buildings.

Coen van Oostrom (CEO OVG): 'OVG and Schneider Electric both joined the Clinton Climate Initiative in 2007. Our joint quest for zero emissions buildings has resulted in an intensive collaboration between the two companies'.

The project was a cooperation between Atrium Vastgoedmanagement (investor), FGH Bank (financier), Boele & van Eesteren (contractor), Schneider Electric and OVG.
