A range of leading investors and advisors submitted their candidates which include the takeover of Spanish property company Testa by its local peer Merlin. The €4.2 bn deal, submitted by CBRE, was the biggest corporate real estate transaction in Spain’s history, the advisor said.

‘The deal was completed in less than four weeks and helped to consolidate the Spanish listed REIT market in Europe as well as helping the Merlin REIT consolidate itself as the biggest player in the Spanish market,’ CBRE said in its motivation.

Rival Savills submitted the 2014 sale of The Gherkin on 30 St Mary Axe in London to Safra Group as one of its top candidates for PropertyEU’s Deal of the Decade Awards. The sales price was sealed at around £720 mln (then €927 mln) and was viewed at the time as a new market peak for the City of London. In the coming weeks, our project team will draw up a shortlist for the different categories ahead of a readers’ vote in the autumn. The Deal of the Decade Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Amsterdam in December.
