US private equity firm Oaktree Capital Management is believed to be hiring Valeria Falcone as the new head of its Italian business.
Falcone joins from global private equity group Carlyle where she was appointed country head in 2011.
At Carlyle, she was responsible for identifying new investment opportunities and carrying out acquisitions for Carlyle Europe Real Estate Partners III (CEREP III), the group's third European fund with a total value of €2.2 bn.
Prior to this, she worked for Pirelli & Co. Real Estate as a director between 2005 and 2008 before being promoted to the post of head of asset management for the group's Italian portfolio.
Carlyle declined to comment.
Falcone's appointment likely marks the beginning of an active investment period by Oaktree in Italy, where the US investor has yet to carry out its first deal. Los Angeles-based Oaktree has been active in a number of European markets recently, with deals including the acquisition earlier this year of the Dolce Sitges conference hotel in Sitges, south of Barcelona. The US firm had already acquired the €46 mln debt on the property from lender Allied Banking Corporation.
The hotel has 263 rooms and is operated by US hotel chain Dolce.
