Blackstone's shopping centre arm Multi said on Thursday that it has officially commenced the construction of the Forum Gdañsk shopping centre complex located on the coast of the Baltic sea in Poland.

The new centre, a partnership of Multi, the Gdañsk municipal authorities and PKP Polish Railways, will offer some 63,000 m2 of gross leasable area in the inner city of Gdansk near the central railway station. As part of the project, Multi will cover the railway tracks running through the land.

The project is expected to involve a cost of €194 mln, with opening scheduled for 2017. Multi said it has already secured financing for the scheme.

Forum Gdansk will include some 220 stores, a nine-screen Multikino cinema, a Pure Jatomi fitness club, a selection of restaurants and cafes, and a multilevel car park for 1,100 vehicles. The scheme is already over 50% leased.
