European shopping centre specialist Multi Development has been awarded BREEAM sustainability certification for its four latest projects.
In Germany, the company was awarded BREEAM certificates with the highest mark of 'Excellent' for the Arneken Galerie in Hildesheim and Boulevard Berlin at Schlossstraße in Berlin.
In Turkey, Multi was awarded its first-ever BREEAM 'Very Good' for Forum Kayseri while in the Czech Republic it gained a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating for Forum Nova Karolina in Ostrava which will open on 21 March 2012.
BREEAM, or Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, provides an internationally applicable classification system for sustainable buildings. The BREEAM rating system is based on eight categories, including aspects of material use, air and water pollution, land use, transport and mobility, waste management, energy consumption and generation, as well as CO2 emissions.
The BREEAM quality standard was selected as the benchmark standard for use in Europe by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
