Multi Development Portugal and Portuguese construction group Lena have been chosen to design, finance, build and manage a major retail development in the city of Leiria, Portugal. The consortium was chosen by the town council following an international tender process.
Multi Development said the Forum Leiria project, designed by Atelier Risco, will involve a total investment of EUR 170 mln and will include a 50,000 m2 shopping centre. Construction is expected to start in 2008 and to be completed by the end of 2010. As part of the project, the developer will also build various facilities on behalf of the town council, including a multi-use pavilion, a sports park, and a new garden area next to the River Lis. Leiria is located 120 kilometres to the north of Lisbon and has a population of 60,000.
Multi Development has developed more than ten shopping centres in Portugal along with Arquiparque, Portugal’s first office park. It now has three developments under construction in Portugal, including the second phase of Arquiparque. Construction is set to begin before summer of Forum Sintra and of Metropolis, a mixed-use project in Lisbon.
