Swiss premium hotel chain Movenpick said it has opened a new upmarket hotel in the Turkish city of Izmir. The five-star Movenpick Hotel Izmir, which has been extensively refurbished over the last two years, offers 185 rooms and suites tailored to the needs of business travellers. After Istanbul and Bodrum, Izmir is the Swiss group’s third hotel in Turkey.

‘Izmir is an increasingly trendy destination and we’re delighted with our hotel’s prime location,’ said Alain Rigazzi, general manager of the Movenpick Hotel Izmir. ‘What’s more, the prospect of Universal Expo 2015 will certainly give the city an additional boost.’

Movenpick Hotels & Resorts CEO Jean Gabriel Pérès said Turkey remains an attractive market for the group. Aside from a current project in Ankara, he said the group would likely be announcing plans for additional hotels in the country.
