The European Association for investors in non-listed real estate funds (INREV) has appointed Michael Morgenroth as its new chairman, signalling a new phase for the organisation.
Morgenroth, management board member at Gothaer Asset Management, is INREV's first German chairman. He takes over from Johan van der Ende, CIO structured investments at Dutch pension fund PGGM, who served as chairman from 2007.
Morgenroth said: 'As we move out of a market downturn, the next few years will see further challenges and opportunities for the non-listed sector. My role along with the management board is to ensure that INREV continues to play a central role in moving the industry forward at this time.'
In May, Matthias Thomas was appointed as the new CEO of INREV. He will take up the position in August 2010. Thomas joins INREV from the Real Estate Management Institute at the European Business School. He was also managing director of the German office of the IPD Investment Property Databank, which he founded in 1998.
Thomas succeeds Lisette van Doorn, who stepped down as CEO of INREV in October 2009 to join ING Real Estate Investment Management (REIM) Italy.
INREV also announced on Wednesday that the remaining members of the original management board are rotating off. They include INREV founder Pieter Hendrikse, CEO of ING REIM Europe. Other original board members rotating off are Georg Allendorf, managing director of RREEF; Bernhard Berg CEO of Generali Deutschland Immobilien; and Michael Nielsen, managing director/partner of ATP Real Estate.
INREV said that the incoming board members highlight the organisation's focus on the future of the industry. New appointments to the board are: Jens Christian Britze, partner, ATP Real Estate; Patrick Kanters, managing director global real estate, APG Asset Management and Noel Manns, principal, Europa Capital Partners.
INREV has also appointed two young professionals to the management board ‘as a sign of its commitment to giving a voice to the individuals who will be leading the industry into the future'. The appointees are Iris Aalders, manager strategy & organisation, ING REIM Europe and Tobias Pfeffer, manager indirect investments, Generali Deutschland Immobilien.
