Benelux-based The Student Hotel is announcing at MIPIM that it is opening two new buildings this summer.

The properties will add 320 rooms in The Hague and double the number of rooms to 485 in Rotterdam. The total investment amounts to over €40 mln, with financing provided by Rabobank for the property in The Hague and by ING for the Rotterdam facility.

With five more locations opening in the next two years, the Amsterdam-based company is bringing its current portfolio of 1,100 rooms to over 5,000 in the next three years. The Student Hotel markets itself as the ideal all-inclusive and affordable accommodation for students, interns, researchers, friends and family 'from near and far'.

At MIPIM in Cannes, founder Charlie MacGregor will meet potential partners to help the European expansion of the company.

MacGregor: 'We have been receiving a lot of interest from developers and investors abroad. There is growing international demand for high-quality student accommodation. This is why we are exploring opportunities in markets such as Germany, France, Spain and Italy. We need properties of about 350 rooms and up, or 15,000 m2. We are particularly interested in existing hotel portfolios or groups with a pipeline of projects. Interested people should get in touch.'
