Five of the world's most 'grandiose' skyscraper projects are to be showcased at MIPIM in the French Riviera city of Cannes from 13 to 16 March. Although sometimes dismissed as outdated, skyscrapers are 'symbols of their builder's technological and economic power,' the organisers of the international property market said in a statement. The towers are growing taller, 'demonstrating new millennium standards of performance and creativity'.

The five tower developments to be featured at MIPIM are the World Trade Center Association's New York Freedom Tower, which will replace the Twin Towers destroyed in the September 2001 attacks on New York; the 700-800-metre Burj Dubai tower under construction in the United Arab Emirates; the 448-metre Federation Business Complex in Moscow; the 192-metre Zlota 44 tower in Warsaw and the 300-metre Tour Phare in the La Defense business district of Paris.
