Belgium claimed three prizes and the Warsaw Spire scored a first win for Poland as Europe came close to scooping all the trophies presented at the gala ceremony which took place in the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on Thursday evening.

In all, Europe took eight of the 12 trophies. Aside from the three Belgian wins and the Warsaw Spire, one project each in Denmark, France, the UK and Germany headed an Award category.

A strong European performance was perhaps to be expected as more than half – or 25 – of the 44 finalists contending for this year´s Mipim Awards hailed from Europe. The Warsaw Spire tower, developed by Ghelamco, was the first Polish projects to reach the finals as an nominee and eventual winner of the Best Office & Business Development category.

The three remaining categories were claimed by projects in Turkey, Brazil, China and Japan.
