Milligan and Urban have now secured a retail licence for a EUR 60 mln development, to be called Barreiro, 30 km south of Lisbon. Auchan-owned Jumbo has been signed up as the anchor hypermarket at the 35,000 m2 scheme.
Milligan Retail, founded in 2002, and Urban Developers are working with architect Broadway Malyan to design the scheme in the Coina area south of Lisbon. The joint venture is also in talks to secure a further two retail developments.
Milligan set up a Spanish office in November by teaming up with Denton Developments on the back of Milligan's success with the Maremagnum shopping centre. It worked on improving the Barcelona centre's tenant mix for owners DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners and Sir John Beckwith's Pacific Investments Group before it was sold in July 2006.
Urban was set up last year by Helda Sousa and Luis Gasper, who previously worked as project managers at TCN Portugal, a subsidary of Dutch developer TCN Property Projects.
