Mike Morrissey is resigning from his position as executive vice president and chief global officer at the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC).
Morrissey's last official working day is 30 March, Tom McGee, ICSC president and CEO, announced in an email message sent to the organisation's membership on Tuesday.
ICSC has 70,000 members in over 100 countries, including shopping centre owners, developers, managers, investors, retailers, brokers, academics, and public officials.
McGee did not give a reason why Morrissey, who has been with the ICSC since 2012, has decided to step down. News of Morrissey's resignation comes less than a month before the ICSC European annual conference in Milan.
McGee said that Morrissey had had a significant impact on the ICSC over the last four years and would be missed. 'His many contributions include, among other things, expanding our programmes and services across Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East as well as meaningfully growing our membership, including formalising our relationship with National Councils and securing the engagement of major companies in our industry throughout Europe.
'Mike has tirelessly advocated for our industry and served our members with excellence. On behalf of our trustees, staff and 70,000 members throughout the world, I thank Mike for all of his contributions.'
Morrissey has a background of leading international not-for-profit associations. He joined the organisation in May 2012 and was responsible for managing all of ICSC’s initiatives in Europe, running ICSC’s London office and supervising ICSC’s international co-ordination. The latter role entailed a particular focus on Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa and India.
Prior to joining ICSC, Morrissey was the general manager of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) where he was responsible for the finances, offices and operation of the organisation worldwide.
