Spanish listed property company Metrovacesa has announced the opening of its landmark Arenas shopping centre in Barcelona. Located on the famous Plaza España square, the mall is expected to attract up to 10 million visitors per annum. The mall represented a total investment of roughly EUR 200 mln.
Metrovacesa took over the construction of the project in March 2009 after its original developer, Sacresa, fell into administration. Metrovacesa is believed to have invested around EUR 70 mln to complete the development of the 40,000-m2 mall, which consists of 116 retail units, 4,000 m2 of office accommodation and 1,250 parking spaces. It opened fully let.
Main tenants include Mercadona, Mango, Nespresso, Fnac and Desigual, as well as a multi-screen cinema operated by Grup Balañá, a Rock Museum and a Metropolitan gym.
The scheme brings the number of shopping centres in the Catalan capital to eight, including the recently-opened Splau! mall in Cornellà-El Prat, which is currently up for sale.
