French-born Bretxa, aged 51, will assume responsibility for the international retail property portfolio of Metro Group and the roughly 1,700 employees working for the real estate subsidiary. Bretxa joined Metro as managing director
Region Western Europe in June 2011. As CEO, he is taking over from Thomas Ziegler who left Metro Group, effective from 30 June 2012.
'With this move, we created the conditions needed so that the real estate management can continue to efficiently support our international growth and actively contribute to value creation at Metro,' said Olaf Koch, CEO of Metro.
Bretxa had already been in charge of the real estate operations for the countries Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Turkey. Before that, he worked for the international retail real estate company Redevco, where he last headed the retail business in France and Switzerland as managing director. Until 2006, he worked for Axa Reim where he had been fully responsible for 12 real estate funds.
