Europe’s largest listed commercial property company Unibail-Rodamco has unveiled plans for two major development projects in Paris and Lyon during the Mapic retail trade fair in Cannes.
In the French capital, Unibail-Rodamco plans a 27,770 m2 mixed-use project called Les Ateliers Gaîté. Located in the picturesque district of Montparnasse, the development will tranform an obsolete 1970s-style Parisian block into 105 shops and restaurants, new social housing and public facilities, as well as a new office building.
The development, set to open its doors to the public in 2020, will also house a redeveloped four-star Pullman Hotel with over 900 rooms and a 3,800 m2 supermarket.
The complex will be set over three levels, reaching over 1,3 million Parisians within a catchment area of 20 minutes by public transport.
The second project, La Part-Dieu shopping centre in Lyon, will see Unibail-Rodamco expand the existing mall by 32,000 m2 to reach a total of 159,000 m2. The company expects to invest around €330 mln to give the centre a major overhaul in a bid to open it up to the city.
Under the project, the roof terrace, currently used for parking, will be transformed to provide a large landscaped outdoor area providing cultural and leisure activities such as an 18-screen, 3,100-seat cinema, as well as a gastronomy offering. Upon completion the scheme will boast 240 shops including Apple, Michael Kors and Zara.
'At Unibail-Rodamco, we are constantly striving for better: better prospects for our retailers, a better experience for their customers, and a better environment for the cities in which our developments are based,' said Anne-Sophie Sancerre, Unibail-Rodamco’s managing director for France.
