Goodman Group has commenced expansion work to create the largest dedicated e-commerce logistics centre in Europe. The existing facility at Regiopark in the German city of Mönchengladbach is used by online retailer Zalando.

The 56,000 m2 of additional space will be developed alongside the 78,000 m2 facility Goodman recently completed for Zalando. On completion, the combined facility will be the largest dedicated e-commerce logistics centre in Europe, with total space of 134,000 m2.

Goodman and Zalando had previously developed the largest dedicated e-commerce facility, with a 128,000 m2 logistics centre in Erfurt. The latest announcement increases the total space Goodman leases to Zalando to more than 260,000 m2.

The new building will comprise 41,000 m2 of traditional storage space, with 9,000 m2 of mezzanine space and 6,000 m2 for offices and social areas. The development is due for completion in September 2014.

'The new space in Mönchengladbach builds on our existing strong relationship with Zalando and highlights the continued rapid growth in the e-retail sector, as well as the versatility of well-located German logistics facilities in meeting the regional and international distribution needs of our customers,' said Jordan Corynen, Goodman director in Germany. Goodman has delivered 1.3 million m2 of e-commerce space across Europe, which the company says makes it the market leader in this sector.
