A total of 42 projects from 19 countries have been presented for the 2007 awards for Mapic, which will be held in Cannes, France from November 14 to 16. Half of the projects presented are for shopping centres, a new award category that has been added this year for those projects that stand out for the originality of their concept, their architectural and environmental qualities and service provision.
The winners - six retailers and a shopping centre - will be announced at an award ceremony to be held at Mapic on November 15. The Mapic awards are designed to pay tribute to international retailers who have shown a dynamic approach to their search for commercial locations abroad. The winners will be chosen by a 7-member jury presided by Sharon Fernandez Cavada King, the director of the retail department at Spain’s DTZ Asesores Inmobiliarios Internacionales.
While projects proposed for the awards are primarily in North America and Eastern and Western Europe, there is also 1 project each in the running for the Mapic awards from Kuwait, China and Japan.
