UK retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) is returning to the Netherlands after a 12-year hiatus with a 'clicks and bricks' strategy.
M&S launched a new Dutch-language website - plus an optimised mobile site - with prices in euros, local delivery and payment options on Wednesday.
The retailer is also opening a multi-channel store located on the Kalverstraat in the heart of Amsterdam's shopping district. Alongside M&S' food products, customers will be able to browse and buy the latest London-style fashion from M&S's new E-boutique which features a Virtual Rail.
The third prong of the strategy is a new agreement with petrol station group BP to open six M&S Simply Food pilots at BP forecourts at key locations in the Randstad, with the first store opening in Utrecht in September 2013.
The fourth step will be the opening of two full-line M&S stores at De Markies in The Hague in spring 2014 and a flagship store on the Rokin in Amsterdam by autumn 2015. Both will have a full clothing, homeware and food offer.
The store on Amsterdam's Rokin will be developed on the site of a vacant office building.
