Macquarie Asset Management has appointed Alex James to lead product development, capital raising and client coverage in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for its global activities in the real estate sector.

James has joined as a managing director and head of real estate, client solutions group EMEA to lead a team of specialists focused on Macquarie's global real estate product suite.

Based in London, James will report to Adam Lygoe, head of Macquarie Asset Management’s client solutions group in EMEA, who said: 'Alex will play a central role in shaping and developing Macquarie Asset Management’s real estate client engagement strategy in partnership with our investment teams from around the world.

'He is a seasoned real estate professional having led equity capital raising efforts for a range of real estate strategies over many years.'

Commenting on his appointment, James said: 'I am delighted to be a part of Macquarie Asset Management’s talented team and to support the business’ ambitious growth plans across its opportunistic, core and core plus real estate strategies.

'I look forward to deepening Macquarie’s global network of institutional investors and connecting them with high-quality and sustainable real estate investment opportunities around the world.'

Prior to joining Macquarie Asset Management, James was head of capital markets at Round Hill Capital and before that managing director at Hines.

He started his real estate career at Lehman Brothers and is a former Royal Navy officer.
