German grocery retailer Lidl plans to invest €140 mln in the construction of a new logistics platform in Martorell, Barcelona.
This will be Lidl's biggest investment in Spain, where it has been present since 1994.
The platform, located on a 126,000 m2 plot of land, will be 66,000 m2 in size and have 144 loading docks, making it one of Lidl’s largest both in Spain and in Europe. It is scheduled to come into operation in 2025.
The new warehouse will complement the one the chain has in Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona) and is scheduled to come into operation in 2025.
According to Lidl, the construction of the platform "responds to the company's need to adapt its logistical resources to the sustained growth" it has in Catalonia.
The construction of this warehouse is part of Lidl's expansion plan in Spain, which includes three other projects located in Parla near Madrid (on a plot of 145,000 m2), Constantí near Tarragona (185,000 m2), and Villadangos del Páramo near León (158,000 m2).
Lidl recently opened a warehouse in Escúzar (Granada), taking its total logistics platforms in Spain to 12.
Lidl is the fourth biggest operator in Spain’s grocery food market with over 600 stores in the country.
