Spain's Inmobiliaria Layetana has sold Barcelona's most iconic building, the Agbar tower, Spanish news agency EFE reported. The 144-metre property has been acquired by Antonio Vila and Santiago Oller and their investment vehicle Azurelau for an undisclosed amount. Completed in 2004, the skyscraper is home to the Catalan water utility company Aguas De Barcelona (Agbar), which has a 20-year rental lease with an option for an additional 10-year lease.

Located at Avenida Diagonal, one of the city's main streets, Torre Agbar provides some 51,000 m2 of office space. The 35-storey building was inaugurated in September 2005 with a ceremony attended by the Spanish Royal Family. The tower has recently lowered its rental prices as eight of its 35 floors were still vacant one year after the scheme opened its doors. Construction of the tower involved an investment of EUR 130 mln. Financing was provided by the Spanish bank La Caixa.
