Data Centre developer Lasercharm has received full planning consent for the first phase of a 65,000 m2 data centre campus in Cambridge’s ‘Silicon Fen’ technology hotspot.
The consent includes 4,020 m2 of technical space and a new on-site primary electricity substation to provide reliable power for the development.
Located in Sutton to the north of Cambridge, the scheme offers the advantage of major fibre networks to link the US and mainland Europe without routing via London as well as the usual diverse routes to the UK Capital.
Lasercharm said it has designed the Camro facility to meet a number of key occupier demands for UK space - specifically to attract major tech and financial corporates. 'These include its location on major cable networks between the US and Europe, proximity to London without being in the Capital itself (and therefore at a higher security risk) and most significantly a wide range of sustainable power sources which are a major concern for these kinds of firms looking to meet their CSR goals,' the company said.
Tim Gwyn-Jones, CEO of Lasercharm, said: 'We have already been speaking to a number of major international tech firms about opportunities at Camro, and with this consent secured look forward to announcing occupiers for this unique scheme.'
