Legal & General Property has secured planning permission from Bracknell Forest Council to deliver 1,000 new homes in Crowthorne in the southeastern UK county of Berkshire.
The homes will be built on the former Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) site, once used for vehicle track testing, offices and industrial laboratories. The 250-acre former TRL site contains a series of dilapidated, vacant 1960s buildings which are no longer fit for purpose.
Identified as a strategic area suitable for helping to address its housing requirements, Bracknell Forest Council allocated the site for 1,000 homes in its Local Plan in July 2013.
The proposals comprise 1,000 new homes, including affordable homes, a neighbourhood centre, primary school, care home, community centre and over 100 acres of public open space.
'By investing long-term capital in housing and infrastructure, we believe that Legal & General has an important role to play in helping to address the UK's chronic housing shortage and supporting its social fabric,' commented Nick Baker, fund manager at Legal & General.
