French property company Klepierre has announced the opening of its Odysseum shopping centre in the French city of Montpellier.

The scheme, which represents a 50/50 joint venture between Klepierre and Icade, is the result of two decades of collaboration between the co-investors and local authorities, Klepierre said in a statement. Odysseum is the largest shopping centre opened in France so far this year.

The complex is part of a vast programme to develop the new district of Port Marianne, located in the southeast section of Montpellier, combining leisure activities with retail spaces spread over 140,000 m2. The mall represents an investment of EUR 95 mln for Klépierre, and a total investment of some EUR 200 mln.

The fully-let complex covers around 50,000 m2 of gross space spread across two levels and 96 shops. It also includes a Géant Casino hypermarket, and offers parking for over 2,000 vehicles. The development is being financed by Caisse d’Epargne Languedoc Roussillon et l’investissement. The centre was marketed by Icade, which will continue to manage it in the future.
