'It's time for something new,’ Jagersma said about his resignation, which takes effect on 1 May. 'Partly in view of my age, 59, I want to add a new chapter to my career.  At this point I don't yet know what that will be exactly,’  he added.

Board member George Dröge will take over Jagersma’s responsibilities until a successor is found.

Jagersma has held the post of board chairman at SARE&F since 2008 and has headed the Dutch association of institutional real estate investors IVBN since 2013. Before joining Syntrus Achmea, he was director of social housing corporation Staedion, prior to which he headed the urban development department of The Hague city council. He was also supervisory board chairman of football club ADO Den Haag between 2008 and 2015.

Under Jagersma's leadership, Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance has focussed heavily on investments in new private-sector rental homes on behalf of pension funds.

SARE&F had €9.2 bn of direct real estate investments at end-2016 and another €8.6 bn invested in mortgages.
