Germany's IVG Immobilien said on Thursday it has appointed Gerhard Niesslein as the new spokesman of the board of management. He takse up office on 1 November 2008. Niesslein, aged 55, has 30 years of experience in the real estate business.

Germany's IVG Immobilien said on Thursday it has appointed Gerhard Niesslein as the new spokesman of the board of management. He takse up office on 1 November 2008. Niesslein, aged 55, has 30 years of experience in the real estate business.

Born in Austria, Niesslein was CEO of DeTe Immobilien from 1999 until September 2008. In this position, he was responsible for real estate management and the international business. Under his leadership, the company with a workforce of at least 6,000 employees developed from the property manager of Deutsche Telekom into one of Europe's leading property managers.

Before joining DeTe Immobilien, Niesslein, who holds a doctorate in law, had been a board member of Helaba, the central bank of the State of Hesse-Thuringia, where he was in charge of the real estate business. In the course of his professional career, he has also held executive positions at Commerz Immobilien, DPE (Deutsche Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft) and Metro International in Toronto, Canada.

IVG's Supervisory Board chairman Detlef Bierbaum said: 'Gerhard Niesslein is a strong leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and more than 30 years of experience in the international real estate business. We are convinced that he will consolidate and strengthen the leading role of IVG Immobilien in Europe.'
