Italian fund manager Fabrica Sgr has launched Omero, an investment fund focused on healthcare assets and nursing homes with a target size of €300 mln.

In a statement, Rome-based Fabrica said it has raised an initial €25 mln from the Enpam pension fund for doctors and added that the fund is still open to institutional investors, in particular pension funds, insurance companies and bank fundations.

The vehicle is aiming to reach a size of €300 mln over its life term of 15 years, and will target annual returns of 7%.

'With this fund we offer Italian institutional investors an opportunity to diversify their real estate portfolios investing in a niche sector while providing interesting returns compared to bonds,' commented Marco Doglio, CEO of Fabrica Sgr.

Fabrica Immobiliare represents a joint venture between construction group Caltagirone and bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena. The asset management firm manages over €2.5 bn of assets.

Last week, the company and its partner CBRE Global Investors announced the launch of the Cicerone pan-European real estate fund after raising €200 mln of equity from its largest investor, Italian pension fund Cassa Forense.
