Italian government has announced it will start to decentralise some aspects of the management of cadastre, or land registry. The decision represents an important step towards the country's progressive decentralisation and supports the efforts now under way to facilitate inward investment into public sector property. Italian government has announced it will start to decentralise some aspects of the management of cadastre, or land registry. The decision represents an important step towards the country's progressive decentralisation and supports the efforts now under way to facilitate inward investment into public sector property. Data exchange between the cadastre and the municipality in order to align information on property units is to start in the middle-term, Italian newspaper IlSole24Ore has reported.

The news system was introduced by decree on March 9 2006, and published in the official gazette on December 12. It basically creates a property unique digital registry. The regional agencies must transfer all data about property construction and development to the municipality. This is to allow the municipality to cross-check the information. The examination by municipality must be done within 90 days after having received the file.
