UK-listed shopping centre owner and developer Intu has appointed Alex Barbany Fernández as the new managing director of its Spanish business.
Barbany joins Intu from CBRE in Spain, where he was national director of retail.
He will work alongside Nick Hodson, who led Intu’s launch into the Spanish market and who had been serving as managing director to date. Hodson will continue to focus on overseeing Intu’s development projects in the country.
Barbany joined CBRE in 1999 and held a number of roles with the firm. He holds an MBA in Business Administration and Management from the ESADE Business School in Barcelona. He was a member of the board of directors of CBRE in Spain, as well as the EMEA retail board.
At present, Intu manages Spanish assets worth €1.3 bn, with a pipeline of projects in development, including a major new shopping resort to be built in Malaga, called Intu Costa del Sol.
