Canadian investment firm InteRo Property Development has commenced construction on a €1 bn mixed-use project in Bucharest's Obor district.
SkyLight Residence will encompass over 486,000 m2 of space, including 2,200+ apartments, 115,000 m2 of office space (featuring an IT campus), over 4,000 parking spaces, and an 8,540 m2 retail area.
The first phase will deliver 551 apartments across seven buildings by 2027. With construction accelerating this year, the project is designed to meet BREEAM sustainability standards. It includes almost 28,000 m2 of green area, representing more than 35% of the project's land area, compared to the mandatory 30%.
SkyLight Residence will offer residents 9,000 m2 of private parks and a 7,000 m2 public park connecting to the nearby Bucur Obor Park and a planned three-hectare green zone. An additional 12,000 m2 of greenery will be dispersed throughout the development, supplemented by 1,000 newly planted trees.
Michael Topolinski, founder of InteRo Property Development, said: ‘We designed SkyLight Residence as a green, energy-efficient project and, given its features and transformative potential, it was included in District 2 mayor’s project to revitalize Gara Obor and the surrounding area. The project financed by the World Bank is an example of intelligent development and our family is happy to get on board and create additional value for the sustainable future of this neighbourhood.’
The project will also pay homage to the area's industrial heritage by incorporating the iconic red brick façade of the Aversa factory into the residential and office buildings. InteRo will construct a primary school for 250 students, three kindergartens with a total capacity of 150 children, and two nurseries for 150 infants.
