International Campus Group (IC), a company specialising in temporary living concepts for students and professionals, has appointed Gawain S.E. Smart as CEO.
Rainer Nonnengässer, the current CEO, will move to a new role as executive chairman of the company. Both appointments are to be effective as of 1 June.
Smart has been advising IC and its majority shareholder Brookfield for over a year now. The 51-year-old Canadian brings over 20 years of institutional real estate experience, most recently at Oxford Properties Group, and has worked across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
Nonnengässer said: 'I am looking forward to new challenges at International Campus Group as executive chairman where I will continue to help the company execute on its growth ambitions to build a leading student housing and micro-living platform across Europe.'
Smart said: 'International Campus has expanded its footprint significantly over the last few years.
'The opportunity for student housing and micro-living in continental Europe has never been stronger and I look forward to working with Rainer and the senior team to progress the company to the next stage.'
International Campus Group has over 5,800 apartments in operation and development in the micro living sector, across Germany, Austria, Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
With an additional active pipeline of over 5,000 beds, the company aims to grow its total portfolio to over 10,000 beds by 2023, deploying circa €1 bn in prime student cities and locations across Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.
