ING Real Estate Investment Management has been named in the Netherlands as the most sustainable real estate investment manager 2010.
The Green Brick was awarded for the first time during the annual real estate symposium held by Jones Lang LaSalle in the Kurhaus in Scheveningen earlier this month. Other players nominated for the prize included: Bouwfonds Real Estate Investment Management and Bouwinvest.
According to the jury report ING REIM stands out in the sector because it is very successful in the actual execution of its sustainable investments and development policy. Some examples here include the purchase of green energy and obtaining energy labels for all buildings and discussions about the possible influence of sustainability on the value of real estate. ING REIM is also active in involving tenants in sustainability to create more awareness.
Hans Copier, CEO ING REIM the Netherlands: 'Of course we are proud of winning this prize. But what we find most important is that the theme of sustainability has been given attention once again. Sustainability should be the leading principle in each urban and regional planning decision in the Netherlands. That applies to national, provincial and municipal governments, but definitely also to real estate funds, investors and developers. Wasting scarce resources should be prevented at all times. First, we should look to see if it is possible to make existing real estate sustainable. Only if that isn’t possible, we should consider moving to new build.'
