ING Real Estate said on Wednesday that it has been contracted to redevelop the 15,000 m[sup]2[/sup] Galerie de la Toison d'Or (Golden Fleece) shopping centre in Brussels. The owners have commissioned ING Real Estate to modernise the premises and to enhance the retail mix. The number of retail units will be cut from 80 to 40, and a spacious open floor plan will replace the original labyrinth structure of this typical 1960s shopping centre, ING RE said.

FNAC, a European retailer of books, music, computers and consumer electronics, has already signed up as one of the anchor tenants of the new shopping centre. Part of the centre will continue operating during the work that is to begin early next year. The refurbished portion is scheduled to reopen in October 2009.
