French property group Nexity said its joint venture with Dutch real estate giant ING Real Estate has been selected by the city of Marseille from 10 other bidders to undertake the first phase of the Docks Libres regeneration project in Marseille. Docks Libres is located in the third arrondissement of Marseille and consists of 38 hectares currently consisting mostly logistics and public services spaces.
The city of Marseille launched plans to redevelop the area in 2003 when it commissioned the Etablissement Public Foncier (EPF), the company managing the state's real estate portfolio, to carry out a study of the site. In April 2005 the EPF bought the industrial part of Dock Libres, which covers an area of almost three hectares.
ING together with Nexity's urban development arm, Nexity-Villes et Projets, will now redevelop this part of Docks Libres. The developers are expected to deliver around 100,000 m2 of net floor area with residential, office and retail space.
