Belgian-based Immo Industry Group (IIG) has begun construction work on a distribution centre in Ukraine for the German sporting goods manufacturer Adidas. The facility is being developed by IIG and its Ukrainian joint venture partner Aladdin Group at the IIG-Aladdin Group Industrial Park V in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

IIG said that Adidas had been looking for new premises in Ukraine to accommodate its anticipated growth in light of the 2012 European football championships, which Ukraine is co-hosting with Poland. Adidas is the market leader for sports goods in Ukraine.

The project involves the development or a 16,300-m2 facility with the possibility of a 9,700-m2 extension, half of which will be delivered by the first quarter of 2012. The warehouse has a ceiling height of 12 metres and has a capacity of about 20,000 pallets. Adidas was particularly impressed with IIG's nine-year-lease proposal, the developer said.

Immo Industry Logistics and Process Solutions (IILPS), which is an associate branch of IIG, designed a goods flow-through system to prevent warehouse traffic congestion by in- and outbound goods crossing paths.
