Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Palminvest said construction has started on two new hotels in Portugal. The hotels will provide some 253 rooms in Porto and at Lisbon's airport, and will be operated under a franchise agreement. The hotels are expected to open at the beginning of 2008.

Last October, the two companies signed a multi-deal development agreement to increase IHG's Express by Holiday Inn exposure in Portugal and northern Spain. Under the agreement, seven new Express by Holiday Inn hotels, representing more than 900 rooms, will be developed over the next five years in Portugal and in Galicia, northern Spain.
