October’s Pan-European Shopping Centre Executive Opinion Survey, published monthly by ICSC Europe, shows a small increase in industry confidence, but the index continues to stagnate in negative territory. Survey results were compiled from responses of European shopping-centre executives between September 17-30, 2012.
Although the survey’s summary index of current and future business conditions (the Euro-Shop Index) remained in negative territory, the figures show a six percentage point improvement in the pace of decline on last month.
A more detailed analysis of the figures show that the slower pace of contraction was led by growth in footfall, although this is not translating into sales. Occupancy levels are stable.
Sarah Banfield, ICSC’s Europe-based Senior Research Analyst said: 'Shopping centre executives are still downbeat, but the increase in footfall suggests that visitors are starting to window shop as the festive season approaches.'
The ICSC Pan-European Shopping Centre Executive Opinion Survey, which has been running since March 2011, provides monthly tracking of key performance indicators and business conditions for the European shopping centre industry.
